MI-88 Magnetic Impulse Indicator

Handheld unit aids in fault locating by indicating when a thump is occuring with a flashing red LED.

Resistors for Protective Output Service

VON resistors are made with the highest quality Laser cut metal oxide resistors. They are rated 80 watts continuous 100 watt intermittent duty. They are epoxy impregnated in a two inch fiberglass tube. Aluminum corona suppression end caps with 1/2-20 N.F. female thread are cemented to both ends of the porcelain element. The 1 megohm resistors are used as current limiting resistors for impulse fault finding up to 30kv and series flashover protection when testing cables with all modular Model C test sets.

Sphere Gap Voltmeters

VON sphere gap voltmeters are constructed to achieve the maximum attainable accuracy and meet the specifications of IEEE #4 "Techniques for Dielectric Test." Using the appropriate table in IEEE #4 the gaps are considered to be accurate with +3% with A.C. and +5% with D.C. The 6.25cm sphere gap covers the range of voltage most commonly used. For calibration checks the 6.25cm sphere gap is suitable to 78kv. For over voltage protection the 6.25cm sphere gap may be used to 115kv. In operation the one megohm resistor assembly is always mounted on top of the sphere gap in series with the gap to prevent specimen damage and pitting of the spheres Sphere gaps are unexcelled for achieving accurate over voltage protection for test specimens. The gap ...

Thumpphone1

Thumpphone I Acoustic Detector

The Thumpphone I is designed as an aid to locating and pinpointing the thump or discharge at a cable fault caused by capacitive discharge impulse fault locators (thumpers).

Thumpphone2

Thumpphone II Acoustic Detector

The Thumpphone II is a solid state amplified listening device. It is designed to be used in conjunction with capacitive discharge impulse fault locators (thumpers) to help in precisely locating underground cable faults. The lightweight amplifier is hung around the operator's neck and the rugged pickup head is tethered to it by a 5 foot braided nylon sheath containing the small connecting cable. A single on-off/volume control is provided. The internal active volume limiter reduces the maximum volume to a comfortable level during loud transients such as those caused by dropping the pickup head. This allows the volume control to be left at a high level while lifting the pickup head by its cable, moving it, and putting it down to listen. A ...
